Hetaireia Palatiou prides itself on drawing upon the best and latest research. The popular militaria field in particular is rife with some dire treatments of Byzantium. These particularly date from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Works such as those by Ian Heath, Terence Wise and others were often quite poor even at the time, and have be thoroughly superceded by more recent studies.
Mere novelty does not guarantee quality, however, as some recent publications have set the more popular side of later Roman studies back again, and some forthcoming works promise to further muddy the waters.
Members are always encouraged to do research, if their inclinations go that way, for the greatest diversity of sources of information is always best.
