- Graham Sumner is one of Europes pre-eminent historical illustrators. He has done a great deal of work on the earlier Roman Empire, and is presently illustrating Timothy Dawsons book on the court and military dress of the later empire.

- The New Varangian Guard: a diverse re-enatment group, mostly vaguely Viking, but containing some people doing some good East Roman re-enactment.
